Getting started

Set up Monograph in about an hour. Pick a style, add your menus and logo, then fill in the product details your buyers look for.

1. Add the theme

Add Monograph from its listing in the Shopify Theme Store. You can try it on your store for free before you buy, and nothing changes on your live store until you publish it.

The listing offers three styles: Parlor, Tear Sheet and Monograph. Each one is a preset: the same theme, installed with that style’s layout, colors and fonts. Pick the one closest to what you sell. You can change any part of it later.

2. Choose a layout style

Open Online Store > Themes > Customize, then Theme settings > Style > Layout style. The layout style changes the header, the home page hero, the product cards and the product page together.

  • Parlor suits furniture and upholstery. Products can open on a room photo, and fabric choices are grouped.
  • Tear sheet suits lighting and design objects. Pages read like a specification sheet.
  • Monograph suits art, ceramics and collectibles. A dark gallery that shows one work at a time.

Colors and fonts are separate settings, so you can keep your brand colors with any layout style. See The three styles for what each one changes.

3. Set up your menus

In the theme editor, open the Header section.

  • Menu is your main navigation. Links with child links open a large menu: room photos in Parlor, a numbered list in Tear sheet.
  • Utility menu holds small links on the right, such as Samples or Trade.
  • Customer account menu is the menu shoppers see when they open their account.

Add footer menus in the Footer section with Menu blocks.

In Header, upload a Logo, or leave it empty and type a Brand name for a text wordmark. Set Logo width to size it. Add a small square image under Theme settings > Favicon for the browser tab.

5. Fill in the product details

Monograph shows the facts buyers of considered purchases look for: sizes, materials, lead times, delivery notes and downloads. They come from product fields you create once in Shopify admin. Every field is optional; empty ones stay hidden.

Read Product details for the full list and how to set them up.

6. Samples, enquiries and trade

  • Free samples. Create a product for each sample with the product type Sample. Link it to the main product with the lusso.sample_product field, and an “Order a free sample” link appears on that product page.
  • Price on request. Turn on lusso.enquiry for a product to replace the Add to bag button with an enquiry form. Turn on lusso.hide_price to show “Price on request” instead of the price.
  • Trade page. Create a page in Online Store > Pages and choose the page.trade template. It includes an application form for designers and architects.

7. Before you publish

  • Choose a Cart type in Theme settings > Cart: a slide-out drawer or a full cart page.
  • Add your social media links in Theme settings > Social media.
  • Open your store on a phone and place a test order.
  • Check each product page shows its lead time and sizes the way you expect.
